Intense Google Algorithm Update for November

Posted by Gary Pollock | No Comments

WARNING to all you SEO’s. Google has gone on a paid link rampage! The mere presence of words such as “sponsered”, “link exchange”, “advertisments”, “paid links” will most likely kill rankings. Also, the relevancy part of the algoriithm has also seen updating. One alternative is to put this text in mislabeled or obscure image files.

A really clever yet sneaky technique would be to detect search bots using a PHP script and disable the text generation on the image. Then you could dynamically generate the text in an image using php similar to how a captcha code is generated.

Also when checking SERP (search engine rnaking pages) make sure to do so from different IP addresses at staggered times. You may suffer several positions if google catches on to your frequent lookups. After using tools such as suck as Rank Checker from www.seobook.com on an 3/4 days a week you will notice google skews your personal results by 1-10 on average. Therefore making sending reports to clients less acurate. Another tip is to watch with what speed you access gooogle, even with a few super fast queries google picks up almost immediatly.

[More updates will be added as time allows]

Optimizing your wordpress blog

Posted by Gary Pollock | No Comments

To start optimizing you blog you can do things like using progressive jpg files which will load in low resolution first to decrease page load time and as the data comes in the resolution will increase. Another thing many people forget to do is optimize their css code especially when using templates. Strip down those css files but don’t forget to backup the css file first because occasionally you might have an error when running it through an optimizer / compression utility. Another thing to do is limit the number of blog posts shown at once. Instead of 20, 50 , etc. Try to reduce the number of posts shown to 5-10 and possible use summaries instead of the full text. These three simple tips will help you keep word press running efficiently and cut down on bandwidth overages especially if you have a high traffic blog.

Bonus tip: Strip all the comments and license info included in your worpress files. Of course hold on to the license information in a seperate file. Unless it is required for you to use it tin the template. Other wise stripping out all of this extra data will greatly decreas the overhead in bandwidth. remember the fasster the page load the better your search engine rank. Google hates when websites take long to load because it slows down GoogleBot which is their web crawler that discovers websites. Google also knows that people hate going to websites that take forever to load and you may find that if your website is slow or if your pages are to bulky your search rankings can suffer.

By this I don’t mean spamming but use your existing customer list and create highly targeted campaigns. To start theresa few things you should be doing:

1. Analyze your search statistics

2. Identify your top keywords and landing pages.

3. Combine these metrics to use the top elements in your email campaign.

Having a highly optimized email campaigns can be much more effective by focusing in on the elements that work.  Consider using your best performing keywords in your emails subject or as a headline in the email itself. Another possibility is to take your top landing pages and include elements form those pages in your emails body content. When you think about things the content that is attracting searchers will probably be the same or similar to content that attracts visitors through email.

Keeping in touch
If customers have already signed up for your email list or newsletter then they have already expressed the interests you need. Now it’s your turn to take what you know and MARKET, MARKET, MARKET.
